Update

6/26/08
Alyssa is out of ICU! She has been moved to the pediatric ward.
I spoke to Cameron a few minutes ago and he said she may even be going home in a few days!
She won't be out of the woods just yet. It will take 6 weeks or more to see how the bones are setting. But, we'll deal with that, then.

From Tracey Bergh:
I talked to LaRae a few minutes ago and they are waiting to hear from the Dr.
Alyssa's pointer finger is not maintaining the temperature that it should be. They are waiting to see if the Dr. thinks that they can do more surgery to maintain it, or if they need to make a decision on what to do. Keep them in your prayers.
For the gate clinic that we had tonight we raised $120.00 for the Martins family. I will send the picture and the cash with her next family member that goes down to the cities this week yet. Thanks to everyone for all their thoughts and prayers and help!!!

Update 6/24/08

A message from Jeff Lang, West Fargo BMX:
As you know we raced last night and did a fund raiser at the track for Alyssa and her family. I along with our other board members agreed that we would take donations from the parents and riders at the track last night and that the West Fargo BMX Assoc. would match any funds raised..............I am very happy to tell you that between the money donated by parents and riders and the matching funds from the West Fargo BMX Assoc. we were able to raise 1000.00 for Alyssa and her family!!! We would like to come race with you and present our donation to the Martins or someone from the I94 track that can forward it to them. It is an incredible thing how people in our area step up to the plate to help one another in times like this..............the Martins are in our thoughts and prayers!!!

Alyssa had to have another surgery yesterday on her left ring finger because it is giving her some trouble. That surgery was about 4 1/2 hrs and they have been doing some skin grafts from other parts of her body also, Cameron was planning on coming home yesterday to try and get some work items organized but because of the surgery he will try to make it today, LaRae, Alyssa's mom, said that she will be in a dangerous zone for about 5-7 days and in ICU also, just had lots of broken bones and damaged done. Keep the whole family in your prayers and thoughts.

Alyssa Martin Update:

Alyssa has been in surgery since 3:30a on Saturday morning. She got out last night at 6:45p. The doctor were able to save all 4 fingers at this point. They think that the tendons and muscles will heal fine. The nerves were pretty damaged so if she get feeling back it will be very little. She has a 50/50 chance of going back into surgery within the next 2 days. They inserted probes in her finger tips that will sound an alarm if her fingers change a degree. If the alarm goes of they will deal with what they need to at that time. They are watching her very closely of any changes. It sounds like it will be a little bit before Alyssa will get out of the hospital. The surgeon that was working with Alyssa is the best in the country. He is the doctor that had saved the farmer in North Dakota that almost lost his limbs. Keep her in your prayers and the Martin family as well.

A fun game gone wrong.

Tonight at I-94 BMX 8 we had a tragic accident. 8 year old Alyssa Martin, daughter of I-94 BMX track director Cameron Martin was seriously injured. During our intermission before the mains we have give aways and play games. Tonight, the game for the kids was to line up and have a Tug-of-War. All of the kids in even motos on one side and all the odd on the other. Alyssa apparently had the rope wrapped around her hand when the game began. When the rope tightened, her fingers were caught. Three of her fingers were severed on her left hand. She is currently on her way by ambulance to North Memorial Hosp in Mnpls. to try to save them.

The Martin family has been in this sport for quite a few years and have helped a lot of kids, including my own, get started in it. Now they need our help, our support and our prayers.
We will be organizing a fund raiser at I-94 BMX to help with the medical bills. If anyone would like to participate it would be greatly appreciated. I will update the site with how Alyssa is doing as soon as we hear. Information on where to send cards and flowers will be posted on
http://www.i94bmx.com/ as soon as we know.
